Move over Minecraft, it’s Hytale’s Time!

For the last 15 years, Minecraft has been the one and only sandbox survival game of it’s kind. Being a best seller, and dominating the video game market. Hypixel brought us a custom server for Minecraft’s Java Edition, hosting unique minigames. Now with that expertise, Hypixel Studios brings us Hytale, a sandbox survival but with more engaging RPG elements.
Hytale gives you the freedom to unleash your creativity in crafting and building, explore and fight enemies, track progress, go on adventures, play solo or cooperatively, all while adding in server mods for unlimited possibilities.
This fresh take on a sandbox game is what was missing in the gaming world.
The Wait is Over! Hytale is Released!
Hytale has finally been released and became available in Early Access on January 13th, 2026! Developed by Hypixel Studios, this sandbox style RPG has been long in the making, with development first starting in 2015. In November 2025, the original founders purchased the game back (from a AAA studio), after it had been previously cancelled. in December 2025, they revived the project, rehired former team members, and made Hytale available for pre-purchase on December 13th, 2025.
Hytale’s Early Access Release
At the time of writing this, the early access version comes at a very reasonable cost of $19.99 USD, with the option to upgrade to a Supporter pack ($34.99 USD) or Cursebreaker “Founder’s Edition” pack ($69.99 USD).
If you want to try out the game, there is the option to purchase just the standard pack and upgrade to one of the extra packs afterwards.
The Early Access version of the game already provides countless hours of entertainment through exploring, crafting, building and some quests. Within the game, when interacting with certain objects or NPCs, you will see “Work in Progress”, this adds to the excitement of what is to come!
Hytale’s Improvements and Updates
I purchased Hytale (Early Access) on January 14th, 2026, and in the span of 3 days, I’ve already seen a couple updates come through with improvements, fixes, and added content!
The developers are actively working on the game, accepting feedback through their website and Discord. I’m very excited to see what they have in store for new items, skins, quests, and more.
Hytale’s Future looks Bright!
Hytale’s development team continues to work on the game, with plans to add lore in Exploration mode. We can expect more of a “story” for Hytale in the future.
I already know I’m going to enjoy Hytale even more than Minecraft (and I’ve been a Minecraft fan for over a decade)! Hytale already fixes some of the issues I had with vanilla Minecraft. Things like cutting trees, holding a torch in your off-hand and having a map, are just a few examples of differences I was very happy to see already. I’m excited to see what each new update brings, and for the price tag of the game during it’s early access release, you will definitely get your money’s worth!
